This a huge weekend for the NFL with two highly anticipated conference championship games. Will Mahomes and the Chiefs continue the AFC domination or will Lamar Jackson and the Ravens rush their way to the Super Bowl?

Similarly, will the Lions upend the Niners in Santa Clara to reach the franchise’s first ever Super Bowl?

We’ll go over some of the most exciting bets this weekend in the subsection below.

Mahomes as an underdog feels a little weird. After the pure domination last year, the offense took a notable step back. That said, Patty and company have the juice to secure tough wins on the road.

It’s unlikely there will be a tougher test than Lamar Jackson and the Ravens, who effectively demolished one of the league’s best rushing defenses last weekend against Houston. KC is not nearly as adept at stopping the run so it seems like you’ll see a lot more of Jackson skirting tackles and diving for the endzone.

However, it would be naive to overconfidently bet on the Ravens here. The better option (no pun intended) is the over. Currently, it’s at 44.5 and a half with the Ravens as three and a half point favorites. While the Chiefs’ offense has certainly taken a step back this year, a bet on them to score 25 isn’t unreasonable, especially against a high-tier competitor like the Ravens.

Another interesting bet is a prop on Lamar Jackson, not what you’d think though. The running yards are often interesting but not always profitable. For this one, it makes more sense to bet the under on Jackson’s passing yards.

He can dish the dimes for sure but, given that he’ll be trying to keep up with a high-octane offense like the Chiefs, he’ll be running a lot. Most sportsbooks have Jackson at 206.5 for passing yards, bet the under as he could end up with a near equivalent rushing yards and passing yards.

The Niners have dominated this season. Excusing a brief slide in the middle of the year, they’ve made mincemeat out of most teams. The Lions are very talented, especially on the ground and the Niners have looked inconsistent in terms of run defense over the past few weeks.

Detroit’s secondary is also a big problem. They’ve had issues giving up big passing plays all season and they’ll face an offense that can break one for 70 yards at pretty much anytime.

There’s an interesting analysis based on each coach’s decision making. 49ers fans have griped at times about Kyle Shanahan’s conservative calls, opting to punt or go for a field goal in situations where a bet on his high-octane offense could pay off. We saw some of this last weekend against Green Bay and, while it didn’t cost them, it could against Detroit.

That’s in part due to the intense aggressiveness of Detroit’s Dan Campbell. They’re coming into this one as a heavy underdog so Campbell will undoubtedly be aggressive with his play-calling.

The Niners are seven point favorites with a 51.5 total. The total is reasonable with the offensive fire power but that spread is generous, arguably too generous. Bet on the Lions to cover the spread here and make it competitive.
