Calgary Flames Name Ryan Huska as New Head Coach

The Calgary Flames have named Ryan Huska as their new head coach. He has served as an assistant coach for the team for the past five seasons. Sportsnet also confirmed the announcement. Huska has a reputation for being a strong communicator, which is what Flames GM Craig Conroy has been emphasizing in his search for a replacement for fired head coach Darryl Sutter.

In an interview with Aaron Wilbur, the founder of The Coaches Site, Huska highlighted the importance of communication with younger players. He mentioned the negative impact on the player if he leaves the rink not knowing what is expected of them. Huska emphasized the vitality of building a relationship with players to ensure that they are aware of their responsibilities, but in the right way.

Huska had previously been the head coach of the Stockton Heat, the Flames’ AHL-affiliate, from 2014-2018. Under his guidance, players such as Rasmus Andersson, Oliver Kylington, and Andrew Mangiapane progressed to become crucial contributors for the Flames. Huska also helped develop players such as Mikael Backlund during his tenure at the WHL’s Kelowna Rockets for 12 seasons.

Huska’s experience in developing younger players and his strong communication skills make him an ideal candidate for the Flames’ head coaching position.
