Can You Bet the 2024 NHL Skills Competition in the United States? Offers, Promos & Best Apps

The 2024 NHL Skills Competition will take place on Friday, Feb. 2 at 7p.m. ET and is just part of the NHL’s All-Star Weekend. This provides a well-deserved break in a long NHL season and a chance for superstars to show off in different events.

We’ll outline the different events of the NHL Skills Competition as well as all the different sportsbook welcome promos and markets available for wager.

What is the NHL Skills Competition?

There is a new format this season in the NHL Skills Competition. 12 All-Stars will compete in eight different events, accumulating points depending on their performance. The overall points leader, winner of the Skills Competition, will earn a $1 million prize.

The first round features each player performing in four of these six events — Fastest Skater, Hardest Shot, Stick Handling, One Timers, Passing Challenge and Accuracy Shooting.

The top eight performers move on to the second round featuring a One-on-One where each player shoots against the goalie of their choice. Finally, the top six advance to the final round where they will compete in an obstacle course for the chance at the cash prize.

Do sportsbooks offer odds on the NHL Skills Competition?

Most of the sportsbooks listed below offer a chance to bet on each event of the first round of the Skills Competition as well as the overall winner. Since there are so many contestants, the odds are more like what you would find from a future such as Cale Makar to win the All-Star Skills outright at +750.

Once you navigate to the NHL section of your book of choice, you will likely find individual tabs for the Outright Winner, Fastest Skater, Hardest Shot, Stick Handling, One Timers, Passing Challenge and Accuracy Shooting. Some of the books, Caesars Sportsbook and Fanatics Sportsbook, don’t offer the NHL Skills Competition while BetMGM provides some of the events but not all six.

Bet $5, Get $200 in bonus bets

FanDuel is currently running an extremely simple promo and is one of our favorites among top sports betting sites. The FanDuel promo code offer requires at least a $10 deposit and $5 on any odds to earn the bonus regardless of bet outcome.

In the NHL Skills Competition, let’s say you placed $5 on Connor McDavid +750 to win outright. Whether he is the overall winner or not, the bet alone earns the bonus bets within 72 hours and the funds are valid for seven days.

BetMGM

The different BetMGM bonus code offers depend on your location and new customers can use the corresponding bonus codes to activate one of the following:

BetMGM bonus code SHNEWS1500 — 20 percent deposit match up to $1,500 in sports bonus

A minimum $10 deposit is required to start earning the deposit match which ranges from $2 in sports bonus for the minimum up to $1,500 in sports bonus for the full $7,500 deposit.

There isn’t an initial wager as part of this promo but you are required to wager 10x the bonus earned in the first 30 days. This can be spread across multiple cash bets as long as you hit the 10x number within the timeframe.

Let’s say you deposit $200 on Friday and earn $40 in sports bonus.

You could use the sports bonus on an NHL Skills Competition bet, for example, and potentially profit cash. However, that cash cannot be withdrawn until you meet the 10x wagering rule. Alternatively, if you used the $200 on the bet, that would count as half of the 10x playthrough requirement.

Unlike BetMGM, bet365’s dual offers are available in any bet365 sports betting state — Indiana, New Jersey, Ohio, Virginia, Louisiana, Kentucky, Iowa and Colorado. The bet365 bonus code SHNEWS allows you to activate one of the following:

$2K First Bet Safety Net

This is the largest first bet insurance offer available among sportsbooks. It allows you to recover a lost bet with bonus bets while a win still pays cash and returns your stake.

The safety net can be a perfect option for any of the NHL Skills events because they offer such a high payout because of the variety of options available. Let’s say you placed $1,000 on William Nylander +1200 in the Fastest Skater event.

• A win profits $12,000 and returns your $1,000 stake while no bonus bets are earned
• If a different skater wins, bet365 would deposit $1,000 of bonus bets within an hour of bet settlement

Bet $5, Get $150

While this offer is similar to the others mentioned above, you’ll need to navigate the odds requirement of -500 or greater. Luckily, if you are interested in any of the NHL Skills Competition events, the closest line to this is around +120, which easily clears the requirement.

As long as you make at least a $10 deposit and $5 wager on any market you prefer that meets the odds restriction, the bonus bets hit your account within one hour. Just like the safety net, these bonus bets must be used within seven days to potentially profit cash.

Fanatics Sportsbook

You’ll need to wager at least $100 on odds -200 or greater to earn the bonus bets each day. The promo runs for 10 continuous days giving you the chance to earn a total $1,000 in bonus bets.

It’s OK to skip a day of the promotion but it doesn’t pause meaning you cannot earn the bonus bets on a day without a $100 bet.

Bet $10+ each day, Earn enough FanCash for a jersey (MD/VT)

Similarly structured, the Maryland and Vermont offer requires at least a $10 bet to earn $40 in FanCash each day. Over five days, $50 in total cash bets can potentially earn cash profits while also earning $200 in FanCash.

The FanCash can be used to purchase official licensed merchandise such as a team jersey or converted to bonus bets to use within the sportsbook.

Finally, the Virginia offer is nearly identical to the one listed above where at least $10 each day earns $40 in bonus bets that day. The promo runs for five continuous days giving you the chance to earn the $200 in bonus bets regardless of the bet outcomes over the five days.

Caesars Sportsbook is also lacking with offerings for the NHL Skills Competition. You can still find daily NHL games or futures such as the Stanley Cup Winner, conference or division winners or even specific award winners.

However, any game or sport is eligible for the Caesars Sportsbook $1,000 first bet on the house with promo code HANDLENEWS1000. You need to make at least a $10 deposit and wager on any market or odds to qualify.

A winning bet cannot win the bonus but profits cash just like any other winning wager. Only a miss is covered up to a maximum $1,000 in bonus.

However, Caesars Sportsbook pays out the bonus as a single bonus bet depending on whatever your stake was with the losing wager. For example, if you recoup a $10 stake miss you’ll have a $10 bonus bet to use in one lump sum and the same applies if you earn a $1,000 bonus bet.

DraftKings
