Career-best effort by Bob Loblaw highlights SBOA elims

Bob Loblaw won the SBOA Stakes elimination at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Friday. He lowered his lifetime mark by more than two seconds. Macho Phil finished second, Chucky Hanover came in third and Ron finished fourth.

Bob Loblaw won the Nassagaweya Stakes and the Ontario Sires Stake Super Final as a two-year-old. He is now four-for-14 lifetime and has earned $247,207. Stonebridge Helios won his three-years-of-age debut. Cold Creek Queso finished second, Sport Secret was disqualified and Magical Arthur was promoted to third. Don’t Poke The Bear picked up the fourth spot.

Evil Guy broke his maiden in a 48-1 upset in one of two SBOA Stakes eliminations for trotting colts. Stonebridge Helios has won five of his eight career starts and earned more than $300,000. John Pentland of London trains the colt and co-owns him with John Fleischman of Ottawa and Angie Stiller of Arva.

Shannon Henry trains Evil Guy, a homebred for Bill Manes of Rockwood and William Cripps of Acton. EvilGuy was winless in 10 starts before Friday's outing. Twin B Archie won the other SBOA Stakes elimination. The Archangel gelding took back into sixth for James MacDonald in a :28.4 opening panel. Esplosione (Henry) battled bravely to the end after a first-up trip.

Twin B Archie improved his career record to five-for-11 with the win and increased his earnings to $297,516. The SBOA Finals were expanded this year to include colts and geldings. S BOA Stakes eliminations for fillies will be held on Saturday, May 14 at Woodbine Mohawk Park. $50,000A finals will take place at the same track on May 21.
