Caulfield Cup or Cox Plate next for Gold Trip

Following Gold Trip’s impressive Turnbull Stakes win, Australian Bloodstock has deferred the decision on his spring race engagements to trainers Ciaron Maher and David Eustace.

Last Spring, Gold Trip became the first horse since Humidor in 2017 to race in the Caulfield Cup, Cox Plate, and Melbourne Cup.

His defence of the Melbourne Cup title is confirmed, but participation in the Caulfield Cup and Cox Plate remains undecided.

Australian Bloodstock’s Jamie Lovett is exploring the idea of targeting the Cox Plate before a subsequent Melbourne Cup run.

Gold Trip’s prowess in longer races and strong affinity for Flemington position him as a top-five contender.

However, challenges loom at Caulfield, especially from potent rivals like Soulcombe, West Wind Blows, and Without a Fight, given his weight disadvantage.

Despite past foot complications, Lovett is confident they’re behind him, as affirmed by Gold Trip’s recent Turnbull Stakes achievement.
