CFP National Championship Odds 2024: Georgia Opens as Betting Favorite

The Georgia Bulldogs are back-to-back national champions and they opened as the betting favorite to win a third consecutive title. Here’s our analysis of the favorites, contenders, and some intriguing long shots for the 2024 CFP National Championship based on our best college football odds.

With the 2022-23 college football season wrapped up, the focus has shifted to the 2023-24 campaign. We may be a full calendar year away from the 2024 CFP National Championship, but it’s never too early to begin hunting for value in the betting futures market.

The teams listed at the top of the 2024 College Football National Championship futures odds are no strangers to being favored. That said, TCU’s run to the 2023 title game after starting the year as a 200-1 long shot to win it all has to instill a sense of belief in schools with longer odds. Even with the four-team playoff format, the opportunity is there to go on a magical run.

Here is our preview of the best odds for the 2024 CFP National Championship, along with a look at some potential picks (odds via our best sportsbooks).

CFP National Championship Odds 2024: Favorites

Georgia Bulldogs (+380 via Caesars)

If Georgia was able to get back to the national title game after losing nine defensive starters last year, imagine what head coach Kirby Smart’s program will be capable of with a host of returning players. While the Bulldogs will once again produce several NFL draft picks this spring, the talent pipeline to Athens runs deep. As the team to beat in college football, it’s hard to argue with the Dawgs opening as the favorite to win it all once again in 2024.

Ohio State Buckeyes (+750 via DraftKings)

Although Ohio State ended the 2022-23 season on a two-game losing streak, Ryan Day’s team will most certainly be back at the top of the pecking order next year. Of course, a key component with regard to the Buckeyes’ title odds is whether quarterback C.J. Stroud decides to turn pro or return to Columbus. Regardless of who is under center next season, OSU will once again have the most dangerous set of receivers in the country.

Alabama Crimson Tide (+600 via PointsBet)

Despite winning 11 games and scoring a dominant victory in the Sugar Bowl, this past season can only be described as a disappointment for Alabama. Such is the way of life given the championship-or-bust standards that Nick Saban has instituted. The Crimson Tide will have to overcome losing QB Bryce Young and linebacker Will Anderson Jr., but there will be plenty of talent returning to Tuscaloosa in 2023.

CFP National Championship Odds 2024: Contenders

Michigan (+1400 via FanDuel, Caesars)

Having come up short in the CFP Semifinals in each of the last two years, Jim Harbaugh will be tasked with trying to get Michigan over the hump in 2023. In reality, the Wolverines brought about their own demise in the Fiesta Bowl defeat against TCU. There will be a number of departures to replace on offense, but the vast majority of Michigan’s defense will return next year. Having home field for the annual matchup against Ohio State will also be a plus.

LSU Tigers (+2000 via PointsBet)

Brian Kelly’s first season in Baton Rouge was largely expected to be a rebuilding year. Instead, LSU advanced all the way to the SEC Championship Game by virtue of winning a loaded West Division. With several starters expected to return, the Tigers could be primed to make even more noise in 2023. With Jayden Daniels set for another year and Harold Perkins back to lead the defense, LSU will be a tough out.

Florida State Seminoles (+2500 via PointsBet)

Mike Norvell has something special brewing in Tallahassee. Florida State will be returning a bevy of starters on both sides of the ball next season, including QB Jordan Travis. Even star pass rusher Jared Verse has opted to forego being a first round pick in the NFL Draft and return to school. With Clemson being the only daunting competition in the ACC, there’s no reason why the Seminoles can’t go on a major run in 2023.

Notre Dame Fighting Irish (+2500 via DraftKings, PointsBet)

Perhaps there was a little luck of the Irish behind former Wake Forest quarterback Sam Hartman deciding to transfer to Notre Dame. In South Bend, Hartman will enjoy playing behind one of the best offensive lines in college football. With several starters also expected back on defense and a manageable schedule that has the two toughest games at home, the Fighting Irish could be poised for a major resurgence in 2023.

Oregon Ducks (+3500 via DraftKings, PointsBet)

With Bo Nix opting to return to school for another season, it’s hard to believe that Oregon’s potent offense will regress much. For the Ducks to take the next step towards contending for the CFP National Championship, progress must be made on defense. Given some of the recruits that Dan Lanning was able to sign last month, there’s reason to be excited about the year ahead in Eugene. Having home field against USC next season will be a plus as well.

CFP National Championship Odds 2024: Long Shots

Texas A&M Aggies (+8000 via FanDuel)

Despite all of the hype surrounding Texas A&M last year, many analysts believed that Jimbo Fisher’s team was still a year away from contending for a title. As such, one could argue that the Aggies’ 2024 CFP National Championship odds are inflated at 80-1 simply because of how disappointing this past season was. Nothing will come easily in the SEC, even for a roster featuring plenty of five-star recruits. That said, getting to host Alabama at Kyle Field is a plus.

Iowa Hawkeyes (+20000 via DraftKings, PointsBet, FanDuel)

Seriously though, why not Iowa? After all, the Big Ten West figures to be wide open once again next season. The Hawkeyes’ offense certainly can’t be any worse, and Michigan transfers Cade McNamara and Erick All are bound to pay dividends. Of course, the defense is expected to be among the nation’s best once again as well. If Iowa can win on the road against Penn State in early October, whatever remains of this 150-1 price will disappear quickly.
