Champion Hurdle 2023 guide: Race time, runners, odds and betting for Cheltenham Festival

Champions Day marks the opening of the Cheltenham Festival, with the Champion Hurdle being the feature race on the first day of the four-day event on Tuesday.

The race has been won for the past two years by Honeysuckle, with the Henry De Bromhead trained mare having dominated in recent years. The partnership she formed with Rachael Blackmore has become one of the best partnerships at the Festival in recent years but the nine-year-old is heading for the Mares' Hurdle instead this year.

Nicky Henderson's Constitution Hill is the odds-on favourite for this year's race and looks the natural successor to Honeysuckle, being three years her junior.

The six-year-old won the Supreme Novices' Hurdle in 2022, beating Jonbon in a win around the old course which was followed up by wins at Newcastle and Kempton. This means that Henderson can complete the triple crown of hurdling with a win in this year's Champion Hurdle.

How to watch the Champion Hurdle

The race takes place on Tuesday, March 14 and will get underway at 15:30.

The Festival will be shown live on ITV, with extensive coverage of the main races on free to air TV on ITV 1 as well as a live stream available on the ITV X platform. Racing TV provides full coverage and is available through Sky and Virgin Media.

There will also be extensive radio coverage on talkSPORT.
