Champions League: Bayern Munich vs. Manchester City Preview, Odds, Predictions

Bayern Munich has minimal chances of eliminating Manchester City from the ChampionsLeaguequarterfinals. The German champs are in trouble, looking like a mediocre team and far away below the expected level of play. That’s not the case with Man City, who accelerates as the season nears its end. The Citizens are in combination for both big trophies, the UCL and the Premiership title. Allianz Arena is a place where Bayern posted some magnificent and confident victories. Can they do the same again? Stay tuned and see.

Bayern Munich (+175) played only 1-1 at home to Hoffenheim, exposing more weakness than ever before. Replacing Julian Nagelsmann was a bad judgment, at least for the moment, because Thomas Tuchel isn’t the right match for this team. Instead of attacking all the time, which is Bayern’s trademark, he slows the pace and kills the rhythm of the unit.

On top of that, the poor atmosphere in the locker room is another problem for the Bavarians. Leroy Sane’s swollen lip was at the center of attention against Hoffenheim, and the German had the advantage ahead of Mane, who didn’t start the game. 

Only one victory in the previous four events back up everything we stated in the previous lines. The inferiority shown in Manchester kinda deflated Bayern’s fans, who didn’t have high hopes before this event. 

Manchester City (+140) continued its fantastic streak, with the Citiznes showcasing violence in the past six events. Throughout that stretch, they would score 27 goals, hammering teams like Southampton, Leicester, Burnley, and two German powerhouses, Leipzig and Bayern Munich.

That relatively short slowdown City had during the middle of the campaign was a preparation for this burst, which could propel the Citizens toward the promised land. Right now, they might be the unit that plays the best football in Europe.

Guardiola’s unit won 10 straight games and is without a defeat in the previous 14 contests. They are riding a four-win streak on the road, with three events that included three or more goals delivered by Haaland and his teammates. 

Choupo-Moting is out, and that’s a big problem for the hosts, whose game plan depends upon one robust striker. We’ve seen them having problems without the Cameroonian player. Manu Neuer is out for the season, the same as Lucas Hernandez. 

The only unavailable player among the guests is Phil Foden, because of his appendicitis.

Head to Head Games

The first leg saw Man City’s 3-0 victory and a commanding presence of the home unit. Bayern couldn’t take the ball on the rivals’ half in certain moments, while their defense looked terrible, especially Upamecano. Tuchel’s tactical variations all failed to surprise City.

Predictions

Maybe Tuchel puts all the pieces of the puzzle together at some point, but now, Bayern doesn’t look good at all, and isn’t competitive against the top European teams. We expect Manchester to win the second 90 minutes as well and them confidently advance to the semis. Also, given the fact that Bayern has to open and attack and that their defense has plenty of problems, City should score at least two goals.
