*Editor’s Note: Statistics and rankings are current as of this writing, Wednesday, February 1st. Numbers may vary slightly entering games on Thursday, February 2nd.

Charlotte Hornets

Despite their best efforts the Hornets simply had no answer for Giannis Antetokounmpo. It was like watching an adult take candy from a baby in terms of the ease with which the Greek Freak manuevered on the hardwood.

It sounds almost silly to say but ignoring the Hornets’ record they are still one of the more entertaining teams to watch.

Head coach Steve Clifford has something to celebrate as his young squad seems to finally be buying into defensive principles.

They began the week having delivered the eighth-best defense over the previous six games eighth-best defense over the previous six games.

Granted getting pummelled by the Bucks won’t help the team’s overall mark but Rome wasn’t built in a day.

Season Stats

Charlotte ranks 25th averaging 112.3 points per game while shooting 45.2% from the field and 32.4% from the perimeter ranking 29th and 30th respectively.

Defensively, Charlotte is giving up an average of 118.7 points which ranks 28th. Opponents shoot 48.0% from the field and 36.5% from the perimeter ranking 25th and 23rd respectively.

Injury Report

To summarize the injury report…

  • Cody Martin, SF (OUT— left knee soreness)
  • Kelly Oubre Jr., SG (OUT INDEFINITELY — left-hand surgery)
  • James Bouknight, SG (OUT —G League – On Assignment)
  • Kai Jones, C (OUT — G League On Assignment)
  • Theo Maledon, PG (OUT — G League, Two-Way)

Chicago Bulls

With just a week remaining until the trade deadline, the Bulls and Raptors may be the teams with the most eyes on them. The latter because they are considered to have the best tangible plug-and-play quality assets and the former as their backup.

No offense to the Bulls, but getting an OG Anunoby versus a DeMar DeRozan is a no-brainer based on the salary and the fact a contending team is almost always searching to add a 3 and D player.

Chicago could still be buyers but with Nikola Vucevic in a contract year, it might be time to rip the bandaid off now with the hope of resetting around LaVine and DeRozan while hoping Lonzo Ball eventually recovers from his knee injury from hell.

Season Stats

Chicago scores 114.3 points per game ranking 15th while they shoot 48.9% from the field and 36.8% from the perimeter ranking fifth and ninth respectively.

Defensively, they allow 114.4 points per game ranking 18th. So far, their opponents shoot 47.2% from the field and 35.8% from the perimeter ranking 16th and 15th respectively.

Injury Report

To summarize the injury report…

  • Lonzo Ball, G (OUT — left knee surgery)
  • Javonte Green, SG (OUT — right knee surgery)
  • Malcolm Hill,  SF (OUT —  G League – Two-Way
  • Carlik Jones, PG Out — G League – Two-Way)

Free Charlotte Hornets vs. Chicago Bulls NBA Prediction:

The crazy dynamic of this matchup is you have one team who wants to win and can’t seem to find their stride and another team who is prime Victor Wembanyama position and still wants to try to get out of it.

Or maybe, the Hornets are just really good at the rope-a-dope.
