This is a season of transition for the Fire as they look to build off a strong 2022 finish and move into playoff contention. They began the season with seven goals in the first four games and have scored two or more goals in four of their last six league games. They also netted three in the US Open Cup game on Wednesday.
Against MLS teams, Kei Kamara leads the Fire with three goals. Designated player Xherdan Shaqiri has struggled to get going this season, but Chris Muller and Kacper Przybylko have picked up the slack with two goals each. The Red Bulls have just two goals on the road this season, and though defense isn’t Chicago’s strong suit, they should be able to impose their will in this game. The Fire forced 22 turnovers last week in Atlanta’s defending third and turned four of those into shots.
If they can turn the Red Bulls over the same rate on Saturday, they will be in a comfortable spot to win.
