Clippers vs. Nets key players to watch

Los Angeles Clippers

James Harden: Harden made his long-awaited Clippers’ debut on Monday night against the Knicks at Madison Square Garden. The veteran point guard had 17 points, six assists, and three rebounds in 31 minutes as he shared the backcourt with Russell Westbrook.

It wasn’t the typical Harden performance we are used to seeing, but it was also the first game with his new team. It will be interesting to see how he and Westbrook do in the same backcourt, as both guys need the ball to be successful.

Paul George: The star forward had a horrendous performance against the Knicks, scoring 10 points on 2-of-11 shooting from the field and 1-of-6 from three-point range. George has played well, averaging 25.7 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 3.8 assists per game this season.

He’s also shooting an efficient 51.6% from the field and 46.8% from beyond the arc. The Clippers will hope for a better shooting performance tonight against a Nets team with two good perimeter defenders in Mikal Bridges and Ben Simmons.

Brooklyn Nets

Cam Thomas: Thomas has taken his game to another level and has become one of the more electrifying scorers in the NBA this season. The 22-year-old shooting guard is averaging 28.7 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game.

The former LSU standout has had three 30-point games and a 45-point effort against the Bucks on Monday night. The Nets will need another impressive scoring display from the young two guards tonight against the veteran-led Clippers.

Mikal Bridges: The 27-year-old small forward had an outstanding game against the Bucks as he dropped a season-high 31 points on 12-of-21 shooting from the field. Bridges has become one of the Nets’ top players since he was acquired last season.

The former Villanova star has shown he’s not only a defender but is a solid offensive player. Brooklyn needs him to carry that momentum from Monday into tonight’s game because LA has three players who can put up 25-30 points in the blink of an eye.

Clippers vs. Nets prediction and pick

Game 1 of the Harden era did not go well for the Clippers on Monday night, despite shooting 49.3% from the field and 34.4% from three-point range. However, they had 22 turnovers, which led to 35 points for the Knicks.

Los Angeles has to do better with their turnovers as they face a Brooklyn team that forces the least turnovers per game in the NBA (11.1). Nevertheless, the Clippers will get back on track tonight against a struggling Nets defense, allowing 120-plus points in back-to-back games. The Clippers are 3-1 against the spread as a favorite this season, while the Nets are 5-0-1 ATS as an underdog. Jacque Vaughn’s crew doesn’t quit, but the Clippers have too much firepower and get the win.
