College Football Playoff 2021 prediction: Why the No. 2 Michigan Wolverines can win the national title

No. 2 Michigan is preparing to play Georgia in the Orange Bowl semifinal. The Wolverines are considered a dark horse to win the national championship. Michigan can beat Georgia and take down the winner of the Cotton Bowl between No. 1 Alabama and No 4 Cincinnati. The team is predicted to be the champion of 2021. It will be coached by Bill O'Brien.

Michigan's defensive end Aidan Hutchinson finished second in Heisman Trophy voting this year. David Ojabo ranked 10th nationally with 11 sacks and 40 QB pressures. The presence of Hutchinson and Ojabo allows Michigan to get pressure on quarterbacks without blitzing.  

The offensive line of Michigan won the 2021 Joe Moore Award. Only tackle Andrew Stueber was named to the first team. The line allowed only 10 sacks on the season. Michigan's sack rate allowed of 2.7% ranks second nationally. The team's 5.31 yards per rush ranked 12th and the 2:39 yards before contact ranked 29th. If Michigan advances past the Bulldogs, they will face another stellar offensive front from either the Crimson Tide or Bearcats.

The Michigan Wolverines are the No. 2 team in the CFP rankings. They have the ability to win both ways on the offensive side of the ball. Their passing game has improved their efficiency since their loss to Michigan State. They can't still load up the box to stop their offensive line. However, their defense won't be as effective as they would like. The team has a passing efficiency rating of 107.5.
