Colorado Rockies vs Houston Astros Prediction 7-19-23 MLB Picks

The Houston Astros and Colorado Rockies meet Wednesday in MLB action at Coors Field. The Rockies have a chance to sweep this 2-game series and get off to a 4-1 start post all star break. Let’s preview this game and give out a pick and prediction.

Austin Gomber Is Not Trustworthy

Austin Gomber simply isn’t a pitcher I’m excited to get behind, as he has a 6.19 ERA and 1.48 WHIP on the season. Gomber has 30 walks and 2 allowed homers in 96 innings. At Coors Field, it’s even worse, as Gomber has a 7.32 ERA and .316 allowed batting average. The Rockies have surprisingly had success with Gomber on the mound, but you have to question how sustainable that is given the rough numbers. Gomber is just not a pitcher you should be eager to back, especially when he's taking the mound at home.

Brandon Bielak And His Road Issues

Brandon Bielak has been hit or miss this season with his 3.79 ERA and 1.47 WHIP. On the road, Bielak has been more miss than hit, as he has a 4.82 ERA and .359 allowed batting average in 28 innings. Bielak has allowed 8 homers on the road, and that’s not ideal when going to Coors, where balls fly in that altitude. There’s a decent chance Bielak will continue to struggle on the road.

Randy’s Pick

I'm liking the over in this spot. Yes, it’s a massive total, but it’s in a favorable park, and we have two pitchers who aren’t in great spots. Gomber has been a disaster all season, and he’s even worse at home. Bielak has had serious issues on the road, and Coors is the one park where even the best pitchers in the game can have an off day.
