Los Angeles FC vs Club Leon verdict

Los Angeles FC will welcome Club Leon to the Banc of California stadium for the second leg of the CONCACAF Champions League final. The Liga MX side leads 2-1.

The US side made hard work of the first leg in Mexico and on the balance of play, 3-0 to the hosts would have been a very fair result. Even 4-0 couldn't have been argued.

The hosts created and missed some very big chances and LA goalkeeper John McCarthy produced a couple of big moments in the second half.

LA survived the worst of it and on the night would have been pleased more damage wasn't done, but all of their hard work paid off when they stole the unlikeliest of consolations.

Mateusz Bogusz found space down the flank and crossed for an unmarked Denis Bounga to gratefully tap home. The goal could be the most important moment in the tie.

Given MLS side's recent history of putting Liga MX sides to the sword in the home leg, even in instances where they trail 1-0 or 2-0, there will be a degree of confidence about LAFC overturning this deficit.

LA have won five of their last six Champions League matches at home, scoring at least two goals in each and three goals in four of them.

One of those games was a 3-0 win against Club Leon and it's also worth noting that the Liga MX side doesn't fare so well on their travels.

They've lost six of their last eight away CONCACAF matches, three of which have come against MLS sides Seattle, Toronto and LAFC.

The hosts have so many goal threats, particularly Denis Bouanga, and it seems improbable that they'll advance from this tie without scoring at least once.

Leon have lost nine times on their travels this season and the most damning of those defeats was a 2-1 CCL loss to unknown minnows Violette AC.

A win of any kind will allow LAFC to at least take the game to extra-time and we think that's nailed on, but they have the firepower to win it in 90 minutes.
