Corach Rambler helps talkSPORT BET punter land £47,607 in Grand National bet

A punter won £47,607 at Aintree on Saturday, which included backing the 2023 Grand National winner Corach Rambler on talkSPORT BET.

The bet consisted of five selections, four of which came first: West Balboa, Sire Du Berlais, Midnight River and Corach Rambler.

Their other selection, Hermes Allen, agonisingly placed third in the Turners Mersey Novices’ Hurdle.

But their each-way Canadian had a huge profit regardless, with all four other horses winning at big odds.

A Canadian bet consists of five selections and a total of 26 bets/outcomes: ten doubles, ten trebles, five four-folds and a five fold accumulator.

£47,607 winning bet selections

  • 2.25pm: West Balboa @ 6/1 (1st)
  • 3.00pm: Hermes Allen @ 7/2 (3rd)
  • 3.35pm: Sire Du Berlais @ 6/1 (1st)
  • 4.15pm: Midnight River @ 13/2 (1st)
  • 5.15pm: Corach Rambler @ 9/1 (1st)

As this was an each-way bet, every single selection and outcome returned money.

Including huge returns on the four-fold accumulator.

West Balboa won the Handicap Hurdle over 3m under Harry Skelton for trainer Dan Skelton, relatively cosily in the end by five lengths.

The next winner, Sire Du Berlais won the Liverpool Hurdle by just over three lengths, just a month after winning the Stayers’ Hurdle at Cheltenham Festival.

After three legs of the five selections looked to have already turned a profit from the each-way £7.55 bet, it would have been a huge surprise to see Midnight River win the Handicap Chase over 3m1f.

Again siding with the Skelton team, who have a habit of winning big festival handicaps.

It all rested on Corach Rambler in the showpiece though to really get the profits in.

And they must have had a nervy wait as the Grand National was delayed due to protestors.

But the Scottish-trained horse justified the support from the betting market.

With two fences to go jockey Derek Fox helped steer him into second before jumping over the last and right into pole position.

The punter won’t have been too nervous after that jump either, as Corach Rambler soon established an easy lead.

Heading down the final couple hundred yards, Corach Rambler was shaken up and comfortably landed the biggest jumps race for trainer Lucinda Russell.
