Cox Plate 2020: Date, how to watch, prize money, confirmed runners, betting odds

The 2020 edition of the Cox Plate will be held on Saturday 24th October at Moonee Valley. The pandemic is still affecting Victoria and crowds are unlikely to attend the big race.

The 2020 Cox Plate will take place on Saturday 24th October at Moonee Valley Racecourse. Last year's race was run at 5pm, but the scheduling clash with the AFL grand final has seen it brought forward to 4:15pm.

The prizemoney for the Group 1 Cox Plate is $5 million. The winner takes home $3 million, as mentioned earlier.

The 2020 Cox Plate will be broadcast nationally on Channel 7 and Sky Racing. Channel Seven confirmed it would broadcast all major Victorian race meets during 2020 and 2021. Legendary broadcaster Bruce McAvaney will spearhead the network’s commentary of the race. Sky racing has a history of broadcasting the Spring Carnival's major races.

The Cox Plate is a Group 1 WFA handicap race for horses aged three or older, run over 2040m. The field is limited to 14 starters with four emergencies.

There will be no crowds on Saturday due to COVID-19. The weather is not expected to be nice. It will probably be a soft 5 degrees on the day of the big race.

Magic Wand has been scratched from the Cox Plate. Buckhurst will come into the race for Joseph O'Brien. Armory will remain in the competition.

Cox Plate 2020 is on the 4th of September. Master Of Wine is the favourite to win.
