Daniel Evans Australian Open 2023 Odds

Want to know how the Dan Evans Australian Open 2023 campaign might go? We’ve got some key predictions right here.

Daniel Evans Australian Open 2023 Odds

Dan Evans is the British number one and also the 27th-best player in the world. He has been around for quite a while now, and he has competed in the Australian Open plenty of times. This year he goes into the Australian Open as the 25th seed, and he actually has quite a decent draw for the first few rounds. Taking his ranking, draw, and recent form into account, the bookies have given the following outright odds for Evans:

Of course, these odds are crazy high for Dan Evans to win the tournament. You’d expect them to be much lower for a top-30 player. But Evans has never once gone past the 4th round at the Australian Open, so it’s unlikely he will win the thing. However, if you did shoot for Evans to win and he pulled off this miracle, you’d have a pretty serious return on your bet.

Upcoming match vs Bagnis – Evans Australian Open 2023

The interesting thing about this first-round match is that Evans and Bagnis have only played once in the past. Yet this one and the only meeting came at the Australian Open back in 2017. An even greater coincidence is that this was also a first-round encounter, and Evans emerged as the victor in a straight-sets win. But since this was quite a while ago, this might not have too much of an influence over the outcome of this game.

Therefore, we’d have to base our prediction on the rankings and suitability for hard-court tennis. With Bagnis being ranked 90, and keeping in mind that he prefers clay over all other surfaces, all signs point to an Evans win here.

Evans Australian Open – Recent Games

Dan Evans hasn’t played a whole load of tennis in 2023. Then again, he has participated in the United Cup for Great Britain. And he also travelled to Adelaide this week to play the second warm-up event in that city. Here is how he has performed in both of these tournaments which largely make up his last five matches:

  • Evans vs McDonald – lost – 5-7, 5-7
  • Evans vs Tiafoe – lost – 6-3, 5-7, 3-6
  • Evans vs Ramos-Vinolas – won – 6-3, 1-6, 6-3
  • Evans vs Kubler – lost – 3-6, 6-7
  • Evans vs Tsitsipas – lost – 3-6, 4-6

Evans clearly hasn’t been prolific in terms of winning matches over the last five. So really, it wouldn’t be unfair to say that he is going into the Australian Open without being in great form. Then again, two of his losses came in three sets, and one of the last five was a loss against Tsitsipas in the Paris Masters. This was played back in November 2022.

However, it was a surprise that Evans lost to McDonald in the recent Adelaide International tournament.

Evans Injury update: Perfectly okay

Based on recent tournaments, it looks like Dan Evans isn’t suffering from any nagging injuries or physical problems. Sure, he hasn’t been winning all of his matches. But this is mainly due to bad form rather than injuries. Therefore, we would expect Dan Evans to be fighting fit when he plays his first round against Bagnis next week.

Dan Evans Past Aussie Open Results

Dan Evans first competed in the Australian Open in 2010. But back then, he didn’t have the ranking that he enjoys today. In fact, he had to go through qualifying, and he bowed out in the second round of the qualifiers that year. He repeated this performance in 2014, which was the next time that he competed at the Aussie Open after 2010. Evans then returned to the Australian Open in 2016, which was the first time he actually played in the main draw.

However, he lost his opening match. The following year in 2017 was when he enjoyed his best Australian Open performance. That year he made the 4th round, which was pretty impressive considering he’d never gone beyond the first round prior to that. But since then, Evans has struggled in Melbourne. He lost in the 2nd round in both 2019 and 2020. Things then got worse in 2021 when he lost in the first round once again.

Yet last year, there were signs that he might be figuring out how to play his best tennis in Melbourne. He made the 3rd round in 2022 before losing to Auger-Aliassime, which isn’t exactly a bad loss. And taking all of these results into account, we can confirm that Evans has a 50% win rate at the Australian Open.

Evans Australian Open 2023 Prediction – 3rd or 4th round at best

We’ve covered Evans’ draw above, and you know he has a reasonably easy opener against Bagnis. He would then face the winner of Galan vs Chardy in the 2nd round, which is again fairly comfortable – that’s assuming he plays well. But that’s where the wheels may start to fall off for Dan Evans at the 2023 Australian Open. In the third round, he is likely to face the number five seed, Andrey Rublev.

Although interestingly, the head-to-head between these two is 3-3, so Evans could scrape a win if he plays his best tennis. With that said, if he does reach the 4th round he would likely face Kyrgios or Rune. And we can’t see him beating either of those two guys given the way he has been performing recently. So when you run the math, it’s likely that Dan Evans will fall at either the 3rd or 4th round stage at this year’s event.

If he did achieve this, he would match his personal best at the Australian Open. Therefore, he probably wouldn’t regard that as an unsuccessful tournament.
