Irish Greyhound Derby

The Irish Greyhound Derby, the most prestigious race in the industry, is just around the corner

The Liam Dowling trained De Lahdedah has seen his odds halved into 6/1 from 12/1 with the sponsors to win the 2023 BoyleSports Irish Greyhound Derby.

The speedy son of Lenson Bocko – Ballymac Sarahjo ran a huge race on Saturday night to win heat 2 in a blistering time of 29.15, the fastest time of the competition so far. He justified his short odds of 10/11 with Clonroosk Sydney grabbing second place along with Bens Teddy qualifying in third.

The Michael J O’Donovan trained Coolavanny Hoffa has seen his odds drift slightly to 3/1 from 11/4 but remains the biggest loser in the market for BoyleSports. Hoffa finished second to Bockos Crystal who was trained in Tipperary by Graham Holland.

The greyhound clocked 29.45, beating the 1/6 red-hot favourite by ¾ of a length. Bockos is now 14/1 from 20/1 to win the title.

It was a great night for trainer Murt Leahy as the trainer won two fantastic heats with Droopys Bri and Droopys Nice One, as well as his reigning Bitch of the Year Raha Mofo qualifying.

Droopys Bro is still a puppy but dominated his rivals to win by four lengths in 29.42. His odds have been clipped into 16/1 from 33/1.

His kennelmate Droopys Nice One won the final heat of the night in 29.64 with her chances clipped into 25/1 from 33/1. Other heat winners on the night include Scaglietti who is now 8/1 from 12/1, Bobsleigh Dream who is 12/1 from 16/1, Well Met who remains 25/1 and Mr Chelm who is 14/1 from 25/1.
