Cigar won the Citation Challenge at Arlington Park in 1996. He was the overwhelming favorite in the Pacific Classic at Del Mar. His trainer Richard Mandella sent out a team of two horses, Siphon and Dare and Go. They won together and upset the odds. C Cigar was not able to catch them. The race was watched by 44,181 people. It was a record-breaking victory for the trainer. In 1996, Cigor had won 16 straight races. Sipson had only won once in his previous five starts. Dare had finished fifth in a minor stakes race. This time, Dare won only once.
