On Monday night, the Detroit Pistons travel to the Toyota Center for a road matchup against the Houston Rockets. The Pistons ended their epic losing streak after beating the Toronto Raptors. The Rockets were defeated at home by the Philadelphia 76ers. The tip is at 8:10 PM ET. Houston opens as a home favorite.

Pistons Finally Earn Win

Detroit ended its 28-game losing streak with a 129-127 home win over the Toronto Raptors. Cade Cunningham had 30 points and 12 assists and Jalen Duren had 18 points and 17 rebounds. Kevin Knox II scored 17 points in a start. The Pistons, who hadn't won since Oct. 28, matched the Philadelphia 76ers’ record of 28, split over the 2014-15 and 2015-16 seasons.

They finished one shy of the record for the four major American and Canadian leagues, set by the Chicago Cardinals during World War II. “I've been in a ton of locker rooms my whole life, but that's a first for me,” Pistons coach Monty Williams said. “Guys were screaming. I was almost in tears. I'm just so happy for our guys and for everyone in the locker room.” The Pistons led 90-86 going into the fourth and neither team could put together a run until back-to-back 3-pointers by Cunningham and Jaden Ivey made it 110-99 with just under six minutes remaining. Toronto responded with an 8-2 run, including six points from Scottie Barnes, but Cade made a jumper to seal the game and the celebration began. They are 3-29 on the year, but the monkey is finally off their back.

Rockets Fall at Home

Houston was short-handed against the Sixers two nights ago, falling 131-127 at home. Fred VanVleet had 33 points and 10 rebounds and Jalen Green added 31 points. Alperen Sengun had 28 points, eight assists, and seven rebounds in another excellent effort.

“We did our best, but on the offense, these things happen,” Sengun said. “We just couldn’t finish good at the end of the game.”

Green hit a 3 for Houston to get the Rockets within two with 25 seconds left. Houston intentionally fouled Melton and he made 1 of 2 free throws to extend the lead to three. A layup by Green cut the lead to one with 17 seconds remaining, but they could only play the foul game so long before they missed a three with 10 seconds left. The Rockets were without Dillon Brooks, who missed a second straight game with an oblique injury, and Jabari Smith Jr., out with a sprained left ankle. Smith is without a firm return timetable but is not dealing with a long-term injury. Coach Ime Udoka said Brooks (oblique) will miss about a week but didn't offer a definitive return timetable.

Houston was short-handed against the Sixers two nights ago, losing 131-127 at home. Fred VanVleet had 33 points and 10 rebounds and Jalen Green added 31 points. Alperen Sengun had 28 points, eight assists, and seven rebounds in another excellent effort. Sengun has established himself as one of the most dominant big men in the league, and his ability to fill the stat sheet regularly helps Houston win a lot of games. He's been on a tear of late, posting double-doubles with at least three assists in four of his last five appearances. He has 10 double-doubles on the year across 30 appearances. Detroit ended its 28-game losing streak, but there is plenty of time to start a new one.

The Rockets will blow them out at home.

Prediction: Houston Rockets ML

Rating:

Detroit is sixth in pace entering this difficult road matchup against Houston. Cade Cunningham had 30 points and 12 assists and Jalen Duren had 18 points and 17 rebounds as they finally won a game. They have been able to score, but opposing teams are having a field day against Detroit’s inept defense. Houston had a tough shooting night against an excellent Philadelphia team, but they will find their footing much easier facing a Pistons team 26th in defensive rating. The Rockets will open it up since they are missing some guys, and this game will go well over the projected number.

Take the over.

Prediction: OVER 227.5
