Detroit Tigers trade proposal: Swapping bad contracts

DJ LeMahieu is a second baseman for the New York Yankees. He's in the middle of a six-year, $90 million contract. The Detroit Tigers signed him in 2007. Le Mahieu could play third base for them or first base. He also played high school ball at Brother Rice High School in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. His hitting profile is similar to Scott Harris. Tigers fans want to trade him for a player who can play shortstop. They don't have any long-term options in their farm system.

The Yankees have a few young prospects ready to take the reigns at shortstop. They also have veteran infielders like Isiah Kiner-Falefa and Gleyber Torres. The Tigers would have to include a prospect in return for Javier Baez. If they wanted to, they would need to sign Elvis Andrus or take on another contract.
