Dettori: A magical career never far away from the headlines

Frankie Dettori is retiring at the end of 2023. He has been a professional jockey for almost 40 years. Dittori has had many highs and lows during his career. His career has spanned many different industries. He was sent to Newmarket at 14 to learn his trade with Luca Cumani. In 1996 he won the Magnificent seven at Ascot. The following year he was involved in a plane crash. It killed the pilot. A cocaine offence in 1993 was a blip in his professional career, but it didn't stop him from being considered the greatest jockeying.

Dettori is retiring from riding. His relationship with Godolphin fell apart at the end of 2012. He was banned for six months in September 2013 for testing positive for cocaine. After his return, he was working as a trainer for Al Shaqab Racing. In the autumn of 2016, his relationship to trainer John Gosden gave him a boost. He is hoping to perform at a high level in 2019. Dettora was bought by God Dolphin in the 1990s. The Italian was also a driver for trainer Mahmood Al Zarooni. Al Zarroon was given an eight-year worldwide ban for doping a number of his horses.
