Dodgers vs Mets Predictions, Odds & Props to Target (July 16)

The visiting Los Angeles Dodgers (53-38, 24-22 away) look to bring out the brooms in their final meeting of the season with the New York Mets (42-50, 20-21 home).

LA has ripped off six straight wins, while the Mets have now lost four straight, dropping the first two of this series post All-Star break and fading from the playoff picture fast.

However, oddsmakers have them the betting favorites to salvage a win during this 3-game set.

Action gets underway Sunday (July 16) at 1:40pm ET from Citi Field in Queens, NY. You can watch the game live on MLB Network.

Dodgers vs Mets Odds

The MLB odds have the hometown Mets as -139 favorites on the moneyline, an implied win probability of 58.16%,  while the total has been set at 8.5 runs.

LA’s recent surge has them at the top of the NL West, two games up on the Arizona Diamondbacks. They’re one of six teams in the National League with a winning road record.

At 20-21 at Citi Field, New York has the third-worst home record in the NL, a big reason why they’re sitting in fourth in the East, 19.5 games back of the division-leading Braves.

Probable Pitchers

Bobby Miller gets the call for the Dodgers, and despite winning his last two starts, the rookie right-hander has been carried by the LA offense.

His last outing he went 5.2 innings, giving up five hits, four earned runs, including two long balls, as the Dodgers beat the Pirates 6-4. Miller did strike out seven while walking just one.

In the start previous, he again went 5.2 innings, giving up five hits and three earned runs, walking one and striking out four as LA trounced KC 9-3.

This will be his first time facing the Mets.

Miller vs Scherzer Stats

New York is likely the betting favorite as ace Max Scherzer gets the call, trying to stop the slide.

He’s 1-1 in July but getting hit hard. Scherzer took the L in his last start, giving up six hits, five earned runs, including a pair of dingers in five innings as New York lost 6-2 to the Padres. He walked three and struck out seven.

Prior to that, he was lit up for three home runs against in six innings of work, giving up five hits, four earned runs, walking two and fanning nine in an 8-5 win over the Diamondbacks.

LA’s Max Muncy is a career .308 hitter vs Scherzer, with a home run and two RBI in 13 plate appearances.

LA vs New York Prop Picks

Mookie Betts has been shredding New York pitching in this series, going 6-for-9 in the first two games, with a home run and two RBI.

He has just one hit in five plate trips vs Scherzer, but look for him to stay hot and go over 1.5 total bases in this one (-108).

Freddie Freeman has faced Scherzer the most of any Dodger, but it’s not great: he’s hitting .224 in 49 at-bats, though he does have three career home runs and four RBI.

Not the most scintillating odds, but those numbers show Freeman’s struggles and I’d target under 1.5 hits (-238).

Dodgers vs Mets Prediction

New York’s offense has yet to rejoin the team after the all-star break, having tallied just one run in the first 18 innings of this series, including Saturday’s 5-1 defeat.

If there’s a pitcher that can help them snap out of it, Miller could be the remedy: in his last four outings, he’s allowed 20 runs over 21 innings of work.

Dodgers vs Mets 2023 H2H Results

The Dodgers are the 4th-highest scoring team in baseball, putting up 5.5 runs per contest. They’re also a solid 50-41 against the run line, the 6th-best success rate in baseball.

New York, meanwhile, is 15-16 this season as betting favorites, the fifth-worst betting mark in the major leagues.

However, Scherzer is 2-0 at Citi Field this year, with a solid 2.96 ERA. Let’s bank on the vet showing out Sunday.
