Dodgers vs. Padres prediction and odds for Sunday Night Baseball, August 6

A classic NL West battle is set for this week's edition of Sunday Night Baseball when the Los Angeles Dodgers take on the San Diego Padres.

The game will mark Rich Hill's debut for the Padres after getting acquired from the Pittsburgh Pirates at the MLB Trade Deadline.

Let's take a look at the odds and then I'll break down how we should bet on this game.

Rich Hill is certainly no spring chicken. At 43 years old, we've seen a dip in his production this season. He racked up a 4.76 ERA with the Pirates this season, so while he might add some depth at the back end of their rotation, he has a tall order in front of him against the Dodgers on Sunday night.

That's especially the case when you consider the Dodgers have had the second best offense against left-handed pitchers over the past 30 days, sporting an OPS of .874.

With that being said, don't discount the Padres, who are fifth in overall OPS over the past month. They'll get to face another starting pitcher who was recently acquired in lance Lynn for the Dodgers.

He has already had one start for the Dodgers where he gave up three earned runs to the lowly Athletics. He now has a 6.32 ERA on the season and there's no reason why the Padres won't be able to put up some runs against him.

Based on the starting pitching matchup, it's best just to take the OVER in Sunday night's NL West showdown.

Game odds refresh periodically and are subject to change.
