Drake loses $250,000 bet on Leon Edwards after Colby Covington UFC title fight

Edwards was aiming to defend his welterweight title against Covington at UFC 296 on Saturday night and rapper Drake put a massive six-figure bet on the grudge fight

Drake missed out on a $1.2million (£1m) payout after losing a $250,000 bet after Leon Edwards failed to knockout Colby Covington in their UFC title fight,

Edwards was making the second defence of his UFC welterweight title against perennial contender and former interim champion Covington on Saturday night in Las Vegas. And he cruised to victory, winning four of the five rounds during a lacklustre fight.

But his failure to finish the fight early cost Drake a big win. The rapper had earlier shared his bet on Edwards to KO Covington with the message: "Head shot please and thank you Leon Edwards." but Edwards never came close to stopping Covington despite dominating the fight.

Betting big money on UFC fights is nothing new for Drake, who has both won and lost millions from his high stakes. to his The rapper lost out on $920,000 when Israel Adesanya shockingly lost his middleweight title to Sean Strickland in September.

Adesanya has also pocketed Drake some big winnings this year as the rapper took home $2.7m when 'The Last Stylebender' knocked out Alex Pereira in April. Drake also won $1.7m when Jon Jones became a two-weight champion by tapping out Ciryl Gane in March.

Drake first started getting attention for his UFC bets when he predicted Jorge Masvidal would beat Colby Covington in their grudge fight last March. The rapper lost $275,000 on the fight when Covington won by one-sided decision and Drake's bad luck continued when Justin Gaethje was choked out by Charles Oliveira in their lightweight title scrap just months later.

A poor run of form was ended for Drake that year when Adesanya beat Jared Cannonier to pocket the rapper a respectable $1m. Paddy Pimblett and Molly McCann's wins in London meant Drake won his biggest UFC bet to date, $3.6m and he thanked the the Scouse duo by gifting them luxury Rolex watches after their wins.
