Duke football 2022 positional preview: Linebackers
The Blue Zone takes a look at each of the eight major position groups on this Duke roster for the 2022 season. The Blue Devils ranked last in scoring defense in the ACC in 2021. Mike Elko took over as head coach in 2022.
Adam Fakih, Colby Campbell and Ryan Smith are no longer at Duke. They played for the team in 2021. Faksih and Campbell played mainly on special teams. Smith switched positions this spring and is no more a key player.
Shaka Heyward and Dorian Mausi are the projected starters for Duke football in 2022. Heywards started all 12 games last season and earned All-ACC Third Team honors. Mausesi played in every game since his freshman year. He finished fourth on the team in total tackles with 59. The coach, Mike Elko, sees Maussi as the future of the defense.
Tre Freeman is a 6-feet-0, 234-pound freshman linebacker. He is expected to play outside linebacker under new coach Mausi. Andrew Long is the Blue Zone editor of The Chronicle's 118th volume.
