York 1.50 - Marhaba The Champ each-way

MARHABA THE CHAMP looks the each-way here, and all being well we will see an improved effort after a couple of lacklustre efforts. He can easily be excused a below-par effort at a quirky track like Goodwood last time out on rain-softened ground, and should be much more suited to a return to the Knavesmire - the scene of his last victory in which he showed real tenacity to get the job done back in May.

It is also worth noting that the 4-year-old goes beyond 10f for the first time, and this looks a wise move considering that Kevin Ryan's representative has looked all about stamina in recent times, and possibly tapped for toe over 10f.

This new trip could unlock the potential of this relatively lightly-raced sort and to say that the booking of Ryan Moore is an eye-catcher would be an understatement.

Back at York on fast ground, I think we will see a different individual.

York 3.35 - Twilight Calls each-way

Frankie Dettori is in his final year as jockey, and he has been booked to ride the Henry Candy trained TWILIGHT CALLS. The 5-year-old has never really made a splash in the higher grades until last time out, when running a cracker in the King's Stand at Royal Ascot.

A fast-finishing fourth on that occasion, he could just be a late bloomer, and given a little break since then, that could be a wise move considering he has a good record when fresh. Take Highfield Princess out of this, and I think we have a wide-open encounter.

I like the Cheveley Park runner here to hit the frame and reward each-way backers.

York 4.10 - Rowayeh

Owen Burrows has his string in fine fettle at the moment, and this race looks tailor made for ROWAYEH to resume the winning thread.

She was foiled in her hattrick attempt when third last time out in Goodwood when upped in Grade to a Class. She is up in Grade and up in the weights here, but the salient point is all about the trip. She has looked a very strong stayer at 1m, and perhaps got tapped for toe at a crucial stage at the Sussex venue last time out.

She has a mark of 88 to defy here, but this step up to 10f looks a massive fillip, and it wouldn't shock me in time if she saw out 12f before the season was out, and ended up in Group company.

Andrea Atzeni will be doing the steering and should take all the beating.
