Elite race circuits no longer in use…

There are currently 40 circuits worldwide with FIA grade license to host a race. Only 24 of them will be chosen for 2023. 75 circuits have held races across 34 different countries. There are three race circuits around the world that no longer host the events they were built for and in one case, no long used at all.

Kansas Speedway is a 1.5-mile tri-oval racetrack that hosts two NASCAR race weekends every year. It was used to host the IndyCar Series for almost a decade. In 2010, it was one of four race circuits owned by the International Speedway Corporation that were dropped from the selection. Three of these tracks were picked up by NASCAR and have hosted the event ever since.

The Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia has been closed down. It hosted its first Formula 1 race in 1999. Ferrari won seven of the 19 races held there. Sebastian Vettel has the best winning record with four wins.

Rockingham Motor Speedway in Northamptonshire, UK, was opened in 2001. It hosted CART and IndyCar races in the early 2000s but it was too expensive for the US series to return. The facility was sold in 2021 for $80 million and is now home to an automotive dealer.
