England vs Scotland Predictions

England are certainly favourites at home, but Scotland have won their last two against the English. I am backing the visitors to get within the seven point handicap with another upset on the cards.

Head to Head

While England hold an overall strong head to head record against Scotland, it is the Scots who have flourished in recent years. In three of the last five, including the last two, Scotland have been victorious along with one draw and a defeat in 2020.

England Form

England’s form has been poor over the last year which resulted in Eddie Jones getting the sack after the November internationals. It was a surprise call after Jones took England to the 2019 World Cup final and has a good history in the tournament.

Regardless, England will hope they can win the Six Nations against the odds as they build towards another World Cup later this year. In November, England lost at home to Argentina, beat Japan at Twickenham, then drew with New Zealand and got hammered 27-13 by South Africa.

The one positive for England in 2022 was the series win over Australia mid-year. Their Six Nations campaign wasn’t good enough either, losing to Scotland, France, and Ireland.

It will be interesting to see how England go under Steve Borthwick after the sacking of Eddie Jones. He is likely to make quite a few changes to his teams during this campaign.

Injuries have forced Borthwick to stick with the Owen Farrell/Marcus Smith 10/12 combo after it was expected he would choose between the two for flyhalf.

Scotland Form

Scotland are a difficult side to predict at the moment. They are certainly better than a few years ago but consistency has been lacking.

The positive is that the Scots have beaten England home and away over the last two years so they know what it takes to win at Twickenham. During the November internationals Scotland was somewhat unfortunate, going down 16-15 to Australia at home and 31-23 against New Zealand.

They did beat Fiji and Argentina with relative ease. The 2022 Six Nations saw them beat England, but lose to France, Ireland, and Wales.

Scotland have a settled lineup. Finn Russell is back in the mix after being omitted in November.
