England World Cup 2022 guide: Key players, injuries, tactics & tournament prediction

England are going to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Gareth Southgate's team reached the 2018 World cup semi-final and the final of the 2020 Euros last summer. The Three Lions are among the pre-tournament favourites.

Jordan Pickford, Nick Pope and Aaron Ramsdale are the England's top goalkeepers.

Trent Alexander-Arnold, Conor Coady, Eric Dier, Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw, John Stones, Kieran Trippier and Kyle Walker are the England's top defenders.

Reece James has failed to make the squad. Ben Chilwell has also missed out. Kyle Walker and Kalvin Phillips are still injured. Raheem Sterling is among the top scorers of Gareth Southgate's England team. He scored three goals en route to the Euro 2020 final.

Jude Bellingham has been a near-permanent starter for England since he was just 19 years old.

England won their two friendlies back in March but were relegated from the Nations League top tier. They had a run of three draws and three defeats in six games, including humblings at the hands of Hungary and Italy. England did, however, end their miserable campaign on a high with a sensational comeback draw against Germany.

England will expect to get out of the group stage and should be topping Group B. They will play either The Netherlands or Senegal in the round of 16. France would be a potential quarter-final opponent if they were fully fit. Denmark would also be an option in a semi-finals.
