Epsom Day at Randwick Tips, Race Previews and Selections

In my humble opinion, Epsom Day is the jewel in the crown of the Sydney Spring Carnival, and all eyes will be on Royal Randwick for another stunning edition on Saturday!

Three Group 1 feature races headline the program, but there are ten winners to be found in total, and you can find all of my 2023 Epsom Day Tips below.

I’m going to have something on State Of American in the first on 2023 Epsom Day.

State Of America has been a consistent performer since returning to the races this time, and recorded a dominant win in Class 1 company at Hawkesbury before filling the minors at Canterbury at his latest.

He’s hard fit this week, drawn well and the booking of in-form apprentice Zac Lloyd also adds some confidence.

Suggested Bet: No. 5 State Of America

Group 3 Gimcrack Stakes (1000m) – 12:30pm

The new crop of two-year-old will be on show in the Gimcrack Stakes and Breeders’ Plate on Epsom Day, and I am going to have just a small bed on Invincible Madison in the former.

Invincible Madison is obviously yet to step onto a racetrack competitively, but returned an eye-catching performance to win a trial on the Kensington course her earlier this month.

She’s by I Am Invincible and out of the speedy Super Too, and I think she can fight out the finish on debut this weekend.

Suggested Bet: No. 5 Invincible Madison

Group 3 Breeders’ Plate (1000m) – 1:05pm

The same race but for colts and geldings, and it looms as very intriguing contest with an early odds-on favourite.

I’ve found this one to be a substantially larger head-scratcher, and I am happy to stay out of it from a betting perspective.

Suggested Bet: No Bet

Bisley Workwear Handicap (1600m) – 1:40pm

Altivo finished down the order at his first start back from a spell, but that is just about the only blip on his record so far, and I am happy to give him another chance on Epsom Day.

The Wootton Bassett gelding has recorded four wins from his six career starts, finishing second on another occasions and finding form around some strong, Saturday metro grade company.

He’s two from two at this point of his preparation previously, and with appropriate luck in running from the wide draw, he can fight out the finish.

Suggested Bet: No. 13 Altivo

Listed Dulcify Stakes (1600m) – 2:15pm

A step on the path towards the Spring Champion Stakes, the Dulcify has been claimed by some smart horses in recent years, and I think that Tom Kitten will join that list on Saturday.

Tom Kitten stamped himself as one to watch by winning the Fernhill Handicap over this route during The Championships this year, and he went to the paddock after running fourth in Group 1 company.

It was his fresh performance this time, however, that really captured me, and he kicked clear of a talented field to win the Up & Coming Stakes.

He was last seen finishing third in the Group 5 Ming Dynasty Quality and will take further improvement into this substantially weaker race.

Suggested Bet: No. 1 Tom Kitten

Group 1 Flight Stakes (1600m) – 2:50pm

Some of the brightest three-year-old fillies in the country will contest the first of three Group 1 feature races on Epsom Day; the Flight Stakes!

I’ve put Tiz Invincible on top, but check out my full race preview and 2023 Flight Stakes Tips RIGHT HERE.

Suggested Bet: No. 1 Tiz Invincible

Group 2 Premiere Stakes (1200m) – 3:25pm

At first glance, you’d be forgiven for thinking that this is also a Group 1 feature.

Some of the best sprinters in the world will contest the Premiere Stakes, including Think About It.

Think About It has recorded an incredible nine wins from his ten career starts so date, improving noticeably with each and as the bar has been raised, culminating in winter with consecutive wins in the Kingsford-Smith Cup and the Stradbroke Handicap at Group 1 level.

He’s been set for The Everest, but has had two good trials in the lead-up to his return, and he can win this on his way.

Suggested Bet: No. 2 Think About It

Group 1 Epsom Handicap (1600m) – 4:05pm

$1.5 million goes on the line in the Epsom Handicap, and another galloper will join the likes of Winx and Happy Clapper on the honour roll!

I’ve put Converge on top at a double-figure price, but be sure to check out all of my 2023 Epsom Handicap Tips RIGHT HERE.

Suggested Bet: No. 5 Converge

Group 1 The Metropolitan (2400m) – 4:45pm

The final Group 1 feature race has drawn some talented stayers, but Just Fine has opened a clear odds-on favourite to win The Metropolitan.

I have put him on top, but I’m pumping up my odds with a Same Race Multi, which you can find in my 2023 The Metropolitan Tips RIGHT HERE.

Suggested Bet: No. 14 Just Fine

City Tattersalls Group Handicap (1200m) – 5:25pm

Kibou returned a winner here a couple of weeks ago, and I don’t see any reason why we should jump off him when he goes around in the last on Epsom Day.

The Maurice gelding has been a great horse since making his debut, winning four of seven and finishing second on another occasion, and trainers Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott have always had an opinion of him.

He did only just get there over this route first-up, but I’m confident he’ll take big improvement into this race and keep alive his unbeaten second-up record.
