Ethel Catherwood a memorable member of female Olympian vanguard: DiManno

Ethel Catherwood was a Canadian track and field star who won a gold medal at the 1928 Olympics in Amsterdam. She was later in scandal for getting a divorce and marrying someone else. Cherwood refused to talk to reporters after a newspaper expose. In 1988, she died. She didn't respond when she was elected to the sports hall of fame. Fanny Rosenfeld was voted Canada’s female athlete of the half-century. It was the first and only gold for a female track athlete at an Olympics. Until 1928, females had been permitted to participate in only tennis, golf and swimming at Games.

Ethel Catherwood is a member of female Olympians. She won a gold medal in the women's basketball.
