Ex-Rutgers assistant gets massive commemorative tattoo after bowl win

Jerry Kill is a man of his word.

The former Rutgers offensive coordinator, who served his first season as the head coach at New Mexico State last fall, told his team in December that he would get a commemorative tattoo if they won the Quick Lane Bowl in December.

“They were dragging a little bit, so I called them all up and said ‘here’s the deal: you win this bowl game, I respect this team so much and what you’ve done, I’ll get a tattoo on my arm.’ They all just went crazy,” Kill told a local Las Cruces TV affiliate. “As soon as the game was over, everyone else is jumping around and I said ‘oh boy, got to go get that tattoo now.’”

After the Aggies earned a 24-19 win over Bowling Green at Ford Field in Detroit, Kill came through on his promise this weekend. On his right shoulder, on either end of two crossing guns, it reads “NMSU, 2022 BOWL CHAMPIONS.”

The first tattoo of Kill’s life commemorates one of the most impressive campaigns in college football last season. He took a program that won three games combined in the two season before his arrival, one that played in just four bowl games in its history, and led it to a 6-6 regular season and a bowl bid.
