What to bet on in North Carolina?

Now that we know where we are going to place our bets, it’s time to decide what we’re going to bet on. Here are some popular options:

Football

It’s currently the off-season, but that doesn’t mean you can’t bet on football. You can always place a futures bet if you’re expecting a team to make a big move and have an active offseason. On top of that, soon enough, sportsbooks will release odds for the NFL Draft. You haven’t lived until you’ve bet your first NFL draft. The off-season is a good time to catch up on our NFL betting guide as well.

College Basketball

There’s no better sporting event than March Madness. It’s non-stop action, which means non-stop betting opportunities. There are upsets and surprises every few minutes. Leading into the tournament, you have conference tournaments, which are almost as exciting.

NBA

The NBA has come out of its all-star break, which means from this point forward, it’s all gas in terms of teams making runs for playoff spots and seeding. You can bet game spreads, totals and player props on a nightly basis. You can also bet the futures market. Once the playoffs roll around, betting becomes even more fun.

NHL

The NHL calendar runs similar to the NBA calendar. We’re approaching the final month of the regular season. No sport has more intense playoffs than the NHL. If you’re not a huge hockey fan, check out our NHL betting guide to catch up and place some bets on the ice.

MLB

Believe it or not, baseball is right around the corner as well. Baseball Opening Day should be a national holiday and no matter what you think of the sport, there’s no denying it carries sports bettors through the dog days of summer.

Golf

Not as popular as some of the leagues and team sports listed above, there’s nothing better than hitting a golf tournament winner. Even the best players in the world have lucrative payouts. The Masters is in early April to kick the major tournaments off.

Tennis

The Australian Open has already happened, but we still have the French Open, Wimbledon and the US Open to look forward to. Tennis becomes a surprisingly fun watch when you have money involved.

MMA/UFC

The MMA schedule is loaded, and it seems like there are events every weekend or two. If you are into combat sports, UFC betting is certainly a viable option.

Soccer

There are leagues across the world. Whether it’s the MLS here in the United States or some of the more prestigious leagues in Europe, you can bet on all of it.

Olympics

It’s an Olympic year, which means it’ll be fun to be patriotic for a few weeks and bet on sports we haven’t watched in four years.

Local Teams in North Carolina

There’s nothing better than spicing up your sports viewing experience by putting some money on the home team. These teams call North Carolina home.

Carolina Panthers

It was a rough rookie season for Bryce Young, but there’s hope that new head coach Dave Canales can right the ship after the work he’s done with Geno Smith and Baker Mayfield over the last two years. Even beyond the quarterback position, there are plenty of holes on this team and it’ll likely be a while before they are competitive again. They currently have the worst Super Bowl odds of any team.

Carolina Hurricanes

Let’s take a look at the good now. The Carolina Hurricanes are consistently amongst the best teams in the NHL for the past half-decade, competing for their division and making playoff runs. The league is wide open this season which means there’s a chance the Hurricanes can win it all for the first time since 2006.

Charlotte Hornets

LaMelo Ball has missed most of the season for the Charlotte Hornets, meaning it’s been a bit of a lost season. This team certainly wasn’t a title contender, but at this point, the question is how much longer of a rebuild is needed.

Charlotte FC

One of the newer teams in the MLS, Charlotte made the playoffs in their second ever season in 2023. However, the franchise’s all-time leading scorer, Karol Swiderski, went to play in Italy on loan.

North Carolina

The North Carolina Tar Heels have won the NCAA Tournament six times in their history, most recently in 2017. They finished second in 2022. They are viewed as a lock to make the 2024 tournament. The football team has had far less success, not winning the ACC since 1980.

Duke

The Duke Blue Devils have won the NCAA Tournament five times, with their most recent triumph coming in 2015. Their best recent performance was in 2022, when they made the Final Four. Duke is considered a lock for the 2024 tournament. In football, they haven’t won a conference championship since 1989.

Wake Forest

Wake Forest has zero national championships in either basketball or football. Their best basketball performance was in 1962 when they made the Final Four. Their best football performance was in 2006 when they went 11-3 and won the ACC. For the 2024 basketball season, Wake Forest is viewed as a bubble team.

NC State

NC State has won the NCAA Tournament twice in 1974 and 1983. Their best recent performance was 2015 when they made the Sweet Sixteen. However, they’ve only made the tournament twice since then and it doesn’t look like that streak will snap this year. In football, NC State hasn’t won the ACC since 1979.
