First and 10: It's a new era. Does Nick Saban need a new Process?

This is the most important offseason in Nick Saban's 16 years at Alabama. Everything will be evaluated, including players, coaches, high school and transfer portal recruiting and even Saban’s famed Process.

Alabama is without superstar quarterback Bryce Young. The team without him is not as good as it was. Alabama recruits better than anyone in college football. Saban needed the transfer portal for a starting left tackle, a start tailback, starting cornerback and 2 wide receivers. Alabama's recruiting classes since 2019 finished 1st, 2nd, 1th, and 1nd in 247Sports rankings composite. It's difficult to keep players focused in the modern college game.Alabama doesn't win games because of holes in its roster. They don't beat teams like Florida, LSU, Arkansas, Auburn and Georgia without Young, or Texas, Texas A&M, Ole Miss or Arkansas.

The official opening of the portal will take place on Monday. Alabama may be looking for a quarterback.

Nick Saban needs a new process. Quarterback is the most important position. Alabama has a lot of young quarterbacks, including Jalen Milroe, Ty Simpson and 2 committed 4-star quarterbacks in the 2023 recruiting class. The team needs to develop young receivers and improve the offensive line.

Nick Saban needs to make changes in order to win another national title at Alabama. Offensive coordinator Bill O'Brien could move back to the NFL or take a college job. Wide receivers coach Holmon Wiggins has struggled the past two seasons.

Nick Saban's team is in a new era. Free player movement and NIL have changed the face of college football. Saban lost Luther Burden, Zach Rice and a quarterback. He has to find a replacement for Alex Young. This is the most important offseason at Alabama in 16 years under Saban. It's the time to embrace it. It is not about winning the championship.

Georgia quarterback Stetson Bennett is a finalist for the Heisman Trophy. He played in big games against Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee and LSU. Bennett threw for 1,183 yards and accounted for 13 TDs. He doesn't flinch in the big moments. Georgia is among the elite teams. The team plays great defense and special teams, but the quarterback has to make plays. It's not the same as Caleb Williams or CJ Stroud.

FanDuel ranks the best SEC bowl games. Georgia is ranked first, followed by Georgia vs. Ohio State, South Carolina vs Notre Dame, Gator Bowl vs., Notre Notre Irish, Orange Bowl v. Clemson vs Tennessee and Gasparilla Bowl: Missouri vs Wake Forest are ranked second and third. Sugar Bowl is listed as number five.

Georgia plays Ohio State in the Peach Bowl. South Carolina plays Notre Dame in Gator Bowl and Clemson plays Tennessee in Orange Bowl, while Missouri plays Wake Forest in Gasparilla Bowl (and Alabama plays Kansas State).

This week, an NFL scout analyzes the draft prospects of an SEC player. This week it's Arkansas LB Drew Sanders. He's long, athletic and twitchy, but he showed this season that he can be consistent and he has good bend and cover skills.

Brady Cook has secured the starting job at Missouri. Sam Horn is a 4-star recruit.

Arkansas needs a veteran backup. Malik Hornsby has entered the portal.

Anthony Richardson is leaving for the NFL and probably won't play in the bowl game. Jack Miller will start for Florida.

Conner Weigman is the new starting quarterback at Texas A&M. Haynes King is in the portal. Max Johnson played at LSU from 2020-21.

Hugh Freeze's quarterback is probably not on the roster. Robby Ashford and Zach Calzada have talent.

Nick Saban needs a new Process. Vanderbilt can win with Mike Wright or AJ Swann at quarterback.

Matt is shocked Lane Kiffin didn't take the Auburn job. Greg Layden is surprised Lane believes he can win bigger at Ole Miss.

Ole Miss lost 4 of 5 games last year, but won 10. Coach Lane Kiffin has proved he can work the portal. He has branded Ole Miss as Transfer U., and players love that stuff. If you're going to leave a good situation, it better be for a great situation.

Jalen Kitna was arrested on child pornography charges last week. He was the backup quarterback at Florida this season. Billy Napier wants to sign two quarterbacks for 2023. He doesn't want to be in a situation where there's no viable backup for a starter.

Georgia coach Kirby Smart believes that as the year goes on, teams tackle poorly and cover poorly.
