Florida Panthers vs. Vancouver Canucks Prediction, Preview, and Odds

Free Daily NFL Lock Pick, Thursday December 14th: Las Vegas vs LA Chargers 8:15pm ET

The Florida Panthers are traveling to Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia to face the Vancouver Canucks. Florida is 17-9-2 this season and sits third in the Eastern Conference. Vancouver is second in the Western Conference with a record of 19-9-1. The Panthers won both of their games last season against the Canucks. The puck drop is scheduled for 10:00 p.m. EST.

Panthers Defending Well

The Florida Panthers are coming off a loss on Tuesday to the Seattle Kraken with a final score of 0-4. This would be the Panthers' first loss on this five-game roadtrip. Florida has been won of the top teams when it comes to their defense this season. The Panthers are averaging 2.57 goals against per game, placing them fifth overall. This may be due to them ranking the third best team in shots allowed per game at 27.29. Unfortunately the Panthers are not carrying over their strength on defense to offense. Florida this season is averaging 3.04 goals per game, placing them 20th overall.

Due to their strengths on defense, Sergei Bobrovsky's job in net has gotten easier. As a result, Bobrovsky has a goals against average of 2.45 and a save percentage of .911. Bobrovsky's record this season sits at 13-7-1.

Vancouver's Top Scoring Team

The Vancouver Canucks are hosting the Panthers after a win on Tuesday against the Tampa Bay Lightning that resulted in a score of 4-1. This is the last game of their five-game home stand as they currently have a record on this home stand of 3-1-0. The Vancouver Canucks are leading the league this season in goals per game at 3.83. This is not even coming from a volume of shots as they are ranked 28th in the NHL in shots per game. The Canucks are just putting quality shots to the net and are finding goals, most of the time on the powerplay as they are ranked fifth overall in powerplay percentage at 26.5%. The Canucks are also doing well defensively as they are fourth overall in goals against per game at 2.55.

Thatcher Demko has been great in net this season for the Canucks. Demko has a record of 14-7-0 with a goals against average of 2.42 and a save percentage of .918. In his last start against the Lightning, Demko had an amazing performance with him only allowing one goal on 29 shots on net.

Rating:

The Vancouver Canucks are having a record breaking season and I expect them to continue their win streak in this game. In the past few games these teams have met, it has not been in Vancouver's favor. However, this is almost a whole new team than they have had in the past, with a lot more depth and defense. Each team is going to defend well but ultimately I think the Canucks can outscore the Panthers as the Panthers are only ranked 20th this season in goals per game.

I am siding with the Vancouver Canucks.

Prediction: Vancouver Canucks ML ( -102 )

Rating:

The Canucks and Panthers both are playing amazing defense this season and each have great goaltenders in net. While the Canucks do score a lot, I think they may be surpressed alittle in this one against the Panthers. In his career against the Canucks, Sergei Bobrovsky has a goals against average of 2.69. I am expecting a low scoring competitive game from these two who are in the top three of their Conferences.

Take the under at 6.5.

Prediction: Under 6.5 ( -122 )
