Less than 24 hours after being the focal point of the chaos between Brazil vs Argentina, the famous Maracana stadium will host this Brazilian Serie A clash.

Fluminense boss Fernando Diniz will count himself lucky that he can remain in the same dugout after overseeing Brazil’s 1-0 defeat to Argentina, which saw them drop to sixth in the South American World Cup qualifying table.

As with the hosts, Sao Paulo have already secured a spot in the upcoming Copa Libertadores season by virtue of their victory in the 2023 Copa do Brasil, so neither side needs to worry about making it into the top-six as a route into the most prestigious competition on the continent.

Just a point separates the two teams in the table heading into this clash, with Fluminense sitting eighth on 47 points, while Sao Paulo find themselves just a point behind in 10th

Fluminense vs Sao Paulo Tips

First up, we are backing Fluminense to win the game at the price of 6/5 with bet365. A large reason for our thinking behind this selection is due to the poor away record that Sao Paulo posses this season.

The Tricolor Paulista are winless away from home this campaign, failing to collect three points in any of their 16 matches so far. Only one side in the league has a worse record away from home in 2023 and although they have managed a point on both of their most recent trips away from the Morumbi stadium, they have scored fewer goals on their travels than any other team in the league.

Fluminense on the other hand have the fourth-best home record in Serie A, having won 11 of their 16 fixtures in front of their own fans. With the hosts priced at odds-against, we make them a value selection to get their seventh home victory from their last nine home matches.

German Cano to Score a header

We also like the look of the 16/1 that is available for German Cano to score a header in the match at 16/1.

In the 2022 campaign, only Jonathon Calleri of Sao Paulo (8) scored more headers in the  Brazilian top-flight than Cano (7). The former is currently out injured and will miss this clash, but when it comes to the latter we think he makes appeal here to score a headed goal against a side who have been lacklustre on their travels this year.

Cano is priced at just 6/5 with some bookmakers to score anytime in the match, and after 27% of his goals in the previous campaign came via his head, we think 16/1 to score a header looks a little too big.
