Flying Wallenda: Resilient Warrior Horse

Wallenda is a horse that inspired a photo on Ebay. He won a Breeders’ Cup Handicap at Suffolk Downs. The horse was bought by Cot Campbell for $43,000. His sire was Gulch. Karl Wallenda was a high wire artist. Wallendas were betrayed by their extraordinary feet. He was trained by Hall of Fame Frank Alexander and ridden by jockey Herb McCauley. Old Friends is where he spent his golden days. They won the Super Derby in 1993. Michael Blowen is the founder and president of Old friends. It is possible to buy a picture of him on eBay.

Gulch was the 1988 Eclipse Champion Sprinter. His dam So Glad was a successful filly in Argentina. She won five Grade 1 stakes and placed second in three other Grade One's. Gulch had a record of 32 starts, 13 wins, eight places and four shows with earnings of over $3 million. He was euthanized in November 2016 due to cancer.

Wallenda was retired to Old Friends Equine Farm in May 9, 2016. He was euthanized due to health issues. The horse had been at Old friends since 2007. He had a bad foot throughout his life.
