Former DFL Senator Karla Bigham Legal MN Sports Gambling

Minnesota is one of the few states that does not legalize sports betting. The state legislature is about to change that in 2023. Democrats are about the control both the state Senate and the House.

Karla Bigham, a former DFL Senator from Minnesota, thinks that soon there will be legal sports betting in the state. Steven Schier, an analyst at Carleton College, has watched other states legalize, regulate, launch, and tax their own sports gambling markets.

The current setup does not prevent sports gambling in Minnesota. It gives other options to resident sports bettors. Native tribes are concerned about where they fit in with regards to this possible cash cow being created.

Former DFL Senator Karla Bigham is betting on legislation that would allow Native American tribes to control most of the sports betting in Minnesota. She also bets that it would also allow them to partner with non-tribal entities like horse tracks or sports leagues.
