Former Hull FC back row Jansin Turgut to make professional rugby league return in reserves game

Jansin Turgut will complete an incredible return to professional rugby league on Saturday afternoon. The now 27-year-old last played for Salford Red Devils in Super League having come through the junior ranks at Hull FC.

Turgut played 30 times for Hull FC having debuted in 2015 before leaving for Salford in 2018. He left the Red Devils in 2019 and almost lost his life in Ibiza following a suicide attempt.

Turgut suffered life-threatening injuries in the attempt, breaking both his legs, his spine, his pelvis and virtually every bone in his face, having a facial reconstruction as he fought in hospital. However, the Hull-born back-rower, who is also a capable boxer, defied the odds to return to the sporting scene.

He returned last year to play for local amateur side West Hull and will now line up for Bradford Bulls reserves against Hull FC reserves at the University of Hull.

Turgut is on trial at the West Yorkshire club and is hoping to gain a permanent deal. He has been a huge advocate for mental health since his accident and has also played for the Turkey national rugby league team during his career.

His return to full fitness and health has been well-documented on his social media accounts with Turgut now lining up against his old club and one or two familiar faces.

Former Hull teammate Jamie Shaul will play at full-back for the reserves with Kirk Yeaman also involved in the coaching set-up.
