Gary Lineker Recalls Michael Jordan Betting While Golfing in England

Golf is arguably the 6-time NBA champion Michael Jordan‘s second love. Besides basketball and golfing, the Chicago Bulls legend was also into gambling. And he has attracted some infamy for his betting adventures. Years back, on a visit to England, MJ golfed and gambled in a surprise link-up with English soccer legend Gary Lineker. In a recent podcast, Lineker recalled his outing with the basketball pro at the Sunningdale Golf Club, UK, and how his friend ‘fleeced‘ MJ after the golf match.

As Gary Lineker puts it, he was ready to host four people from the US, including MJ at Sunningdale. Later, he was informed that there would be six of them. And the line-up became complete after superstar Samuel L. Jackson joined the likes of Michael Jackson!

MJ wanted to intimidate a certain Michael King by placing a hefty golfing bet, recalled Gary Lineker

Gary Lineker concluded the recent episode of the Rest is Football podcast, by recalling his Michael Jordan tale. Lineker’s agent, John Holmes, informed him that MJ wanted to play golf in Sunningdale. When he realized there were more people in the NBA icon’s entourage, including Samuel L Jackson, the soccer veteran asked his friend and Sunningdale member Michael King a.k.a. Queenie to join the party. Queenie, as Lineker puts it, was a shrewd gambler on the golf course. He said, ‘Do we want a little wager on this?’ Michael Jordan puffs on his cigar and he went, ‘Sure man.’ And Queenie said ‘How much would you like to pay.’And Jordan has a big puff on his cigar and he goes, ‘Whatever makes you feel uncomfortable,'” said Gary Lineker.

Then, the Tottenham legend admitted he lost to Michael Jordan in the golf game. However, his friend Michael King seems to have had the better of the Bulls icon. Lineker revealed how Queenie hilariously made MJ pay his debts before leaving England.

Michael Jordan was ‘fleeced’ by Gary Lineker’s pal!

After the golfing adventures, Queenie wanted to explain to MJ and Co. he won and ask him to pay the wager. He[Queenie] said ‘Let’s just say I fleeced him for a few thousands,” Gary Lineker recalled. Lineker added that Queenie constantly asked him if it was fine to ask the wager of their guests. As the soccer veteran remembers, his friend said, Mr Jordan, in this country when we play for money we do tend to pay our debts. He said he[Jordan] went to the car, and he said his driver brought over 2,000 pounds or something.”

Despite having such great memories on a golf course, Lineker had to stop swinging because of arthritis. Meanwhile, the great Michael Jordan continues to perfect his swing to this day. What are your thoughts on Lineker’s MJ and Samuel L. Jackson story? Tell us in the comments.
