Georgia vs TCU spread: Opening line for CFP National Championship Game

The opening line for the CFP National Championship Game between the Georgia Bulldogs and TCU Horned Frogs has been revealed.

The College Football Playoff Semifinals did not disappoint in the entertainment department. We entered New Year’s Eve with four teams, now only two remain in the tournament, and will compete in the CFP National Championship Game.

To start off the evening, the TCU Horned Frogs were able to fend off a late, chaotic comeback attempt by the Michigan Wolverines in the Fiesta Bowl, winning 51-45. Then, to ring in the New Year, the Georgia Bulldogs escaped Mercedes Benz Stadium with a 42-41 win over the Ohio State Buckeyes in the Peach Bowl. Now, both teams will meet in California on Jan. 9 for the chance to be recognized as national champions.

For those fans who want to partake in making some money on the biggest college football game of the season, the opening line has officially been revealed. According to DraftKings Sportsbook, the opening line is 13.5 points in favor of Georgia over TCU.

Georgia heavily favored over TCU in opening line of CFP National Championship Game

Being unfavored in terms of sportsbooks is nothing new for TCU. They were considered heavy underdogs against Michigan in the Fiesta Bowl. Yet, they pulled off a biggest upset in College Football Playoff history after answering Michigan’s 35 second-half points with 30 of their own to maintain their lead. That, and they ended Michigan’s late comeback attempt by forcing a turnover on downs in just four plays on the final drive.

As for Georgia, they had their fanbase sweating.

Down 38-24 at the end of the third quarter, Georgia were able to pull the game to 38-35 after a 31-yard field goal by Jake Podlesny and a 76-yard touchdown reception by Arian Smith. Then, trailing 41-35 after a 48-yard field goal by Ohio State’s Noah Ruggles, quarterback Stetson Bennett marched down the football field in just five plays, culminating in a 10-yard touchdown pass to Adonai Mitchell, eventually taking a 42-41 lead with just 54-seconds remaining.

Ohio State threatened, with quarterback C.J. Stroud bringing the offense down to Georgia’s 32-yard line. On a game-winning, 50-yard attempt, Ruggles’ kick flew wide left, securing the victory for the Bulldogs.

Will Georgia be able to win back-to-back national championships? Or will TCU be the first Big 12 school to stand tall at the end of the College Football Playoff? We’ll find out on Jan. 9.
