Gold Cup-winning rider Jim Wilson dies at 72
Jim Wilson died at the age of 72 on Monday. He was a well-known jockey and trainer at Cheltenham Festival. His greatest triumph was the 1981 Gold Cup on Little Owl. Nicky Henderson rode for Fred Winter and had a long friendship with Wilson. Bob Champion spent many years riding against Wilson and called him a professional. He won the Coral Golden Hurdle Final three years in a row from 1979. Taberna Lord won Coral Gold HURDLE Final in 1987. The staying hurdler's final win at festival came at age 13. Wilson later became a trainer in Chelenham.
