Guardians game Wednesday vs. Dodgers suspended, set to resume Thursday prior to series finale

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Wednesday’s Guardians game against the Dodgers was officially suspended due to rain and will resume at 12:10 p.m. on Thursday before the regularly scheduled series finale between the two clubs at Progressive Field. Gates will open at 11 a.m.

The contest will pick up from the top of the third inning with Cleveland trailing Los Angeles by a 3-1 score. All stats from Wednesday’s first two innings will carry over to the resumed game.

Former Cleveland pitcher Orel Hershiser tossed out the first pitch prior to Wednesday’s start. Hershiser’s ex-battery mate Sandy Alomar Jr. was behind the plate to receive the throw.

The Dodgers jumped in front after Cleveland right-hander Xzavion Curry allowed three runs in the first inning on a sacrifice fly by Will Smith and RBI doubles by Max Muncy and Kike Hernandez. José Ramírez answered with a solo home run, his 19th, in the bottom of the first off Dodgers lefty Clayton Kershaw to cut L.A.’s lead to two.

Kershaw struck out the side in the bottom of the second, but grounds crew members immediately rolled out the tarp and covered the field after he whiffed Brayan Rocchio at 7:46 p.m. Heavy rains arrived at the park about 25 minutes later as pools of water formed on the outfield warning track and in front of Cleveland’s dugout.

The game was officially suspended at 9:23 after a delay of more than an hour and a half.

Thursday’s regularly scheduled game is set to begin approximately 40 minutes following the conclusion of the resumed game. Fans holding tickets to Thursday’s game can attend both the resumption of Wednesday’s game as well as Thursday’s contest.

Ticketholders from Wednesday’s game can exchange into one of several remaining home dates online at CLEGuardians.com/tickets.

Fans holding tickets to the originally scheduled August 24 game who want to attend both games may do so and will have the same seat for both games. Fans are able to use the full value of their August 23 tickets in their My Tickets account when exchanging into one of 15 designated games (additional fees may apply), including tomorrow’s games. Tickets for Wednesday’s game must be exchanged by September 13 at 5 p.m.
