Haas car launch: American Formula 1 team launch VF-24

Haas are the first Formula 1 team to launch their car design and livery for the 2024 season.

The VF-24 will be driven by Nico Hulkenberg and Kevin Magnussen and will make its debut on track at Silverstone on 11 February.

New team principal Ayao Komatsu said the concept was a continuation of the upgrade Haas unveiled in Austin, Texas, last season.

However, he conceded the team will likely struggle in the opening races.

Haas finished bottom of the constructors' championship in 2023 with 12 points - 848 points behind title winners Red Bull.

Japanese Komatsu replaced Guenther Steiner in January after the Italian left his role following 10 years in charge.

The 48-year-old was Haas' director of engineering before taking over from Steiner and has been with the US-based team since their F1 debut in 2016.

"Out of the gates in Bahrain, like I said, I still think we're going to be towards the back of the grid, if not last," said Komatsu.

He said the reasoning behind his prediction for the season-opener next month was the time lost preparing the updated car for last year's United States Grand Prix in October.

"It really diverted resource, so we lost time there," said Komatsu.

"But the team is finding good gains in the wind tunnel so that's positive and in terms of characteristics, it's going in the right direction.

"I knew exactly where we were going for this year, but everyone saw a preview in Austin."

Komatsu is joined by new technical director Andrea De Zordo for the 2024 campaign, after Simone Resta left along with Steiner.

"He was the chief designer previously and is a very technical person," Komatsu said.

"His communication is good, he's very engaged and he listens to people, so I'm very happy about that appointment."

The first race of the season, the Bahrain Grand Prix, takes place from 29 February-2 March.
