Hard Rock Bet sportsbook app is now live in Florida

We have exciting news in the Sunshine State on Election Day. The Seminole Tribe has granted limited access to its Hard Rock Bet sportsbook app for existing customers in Florida, allowing them to test the platform. Although access has been granted, it does not come without restrictions. Currently only people who used the app when it first launched in the state in 2021 and existing members of the Unity by Hard Rock loyalty program can use the Hard Rock Bet app. Other prospective bettors can join a waiting list for early access when the app becomes available to all Floridians. The Seminole Hard Rock website does not specify when this will happen.

As for those who are able to actively bet now, there is excitement in the air for Saturday’s College Football Showdown between the Miami Hurricanes (6-3) vs Florida State Seminoles (9-0).

In 2021, the Seminole Tribe launched online sports betting in Florida under a historic compact agreement with the state. The agreement gave the Tribe control over sports betting and allowed it to add craps and roulette to its casinos. In return, the Tribe agreed to pay the state at least $2.5 billion over the first five years.

The deal was challenged in court by West Flagler Associates and Bonita-Fort Myers Corp., which own casinos and poker rooms in South Florida. As a result, online sports betting was suspended in Florida. An appeals court later ruled in favor of the Tribe, and the U.S. Supreme Court recently refused to issue a stay on the compact while the two companies prepare to appeal to the Supreme Court.

According to multiple reports, West Flagler Associates and Bonita-Fort Myers Corp. suing the Tribe in the Florida Supreme Court, arguing that the current plan for sports betting violates a 2018 constitutional amendment requiring voter approval for any expansion of gaming in Florida.

In the meantime, the Seminole Tribe plans to launch craps, roulette, and in-person sports betting at its Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casinos throughout Florida starting around Dec. 7.
