Harman wins Open Championship and NFL players busted for gambling

I must ask, where did the month of July go? I cannot believe how fast this summer is going here in 2023.

How about a 10,000 to 1 shot winning the 151st Open Championship! Yes, Brian Harman won the Open Championship at Royal Liverpool Golf Club by an astonishing six strokes! I can tell you, that is close to a historic margin of victory by an American golfer. The largest margin by an American is held by Tiger Woods when he won in 2000 by eight shots.

The drama on Sunday of a major golf tournament was absolutely zero. I thought Brian Harman handled the pressure of a big lead fabulously as he coasted to victory.

I was a little shocked to find out only three left-handed players have won the Open Championship. A man named Bob Charles in 1963 and Phil Mickelson in 2013. Let’s give a round of applause to all the lefties, who are playing golf and hack it around on the weekends.

The Brain Harman statistic of the weekend? How about making 58/59 putts inside of 10 feet! I can tell you, that is one heck of a feat on those greens. I say, Brian enjoy the Claret Jug. It was a well-deserved win.

How about all these NFL players now getting busted for gambling. The newest clown to get caught betting on the NFL games is Denver Broncos Eyioma Uwazurike. The NFL suspended him indefinitely, and he cannot even be considered for reinstatement until July of 2024.

The climbing total of NFL players with gambling suspensions is now at 10 players. I can say, the Detroit Lions lead the league with a total of four players on the list. Hey, the Lions are number one in the NFL for something at least.

I can tell you this, the NFL will be issuing more suspensions as they continue to monitor this gambling situation around the league. I guess my point is, you have a short playing career. The player — once his career is over — can gamble all he wants, so just Don’t Do It! I wonder what player is next in line for a suspension?

The Detroit Lions received their first training camp scare on Monday. The defensive back, C.J. Gardner Johnson’s right knee was banged up and he was carted off the field. The Lions were happy to find out an MRI showed no structural damage to the knee. The Lions announced he is now day-to-day, which is a good sign. I thought to myself, this is the biggest fear of training camp: a key player going down with an injury. I surely hope the Lions come out of training camp healthy with all their players, and mostly the key players, they are counting on in 2023.

The Buffalo Bills just lost running back Nyheim Hines for the season in a jet skiing accident where he was struck by another jet ski. Nyheim now has a torn ACL and will miss the season. Talk about a freak and strange accident.

The college football season is rapidly approaching as those college practices will start soon. I believe the Michigan Wolverines practices start on Aug. 2. The Big Ten media days will be July 26-27. The Michigan State Spartans will open practice next week. (I could not find an actual date released by the Spartans.) I know I am excited about the upcoming college football season as I am sure many of you are also. The big question is, will the Georgia Bulldogs three peat? I can tell you this, they just might!
