Hawks vs. Celtics NBA expert prediction and odds for Wednesday, Feb. 7 (Bet over)

The Atlanta Hawks, 10th in the Eastern Conference standings, won four straight games for the first time since November before Monday’s shootout loss (149-144) to the Los Angeles Clippers. Atlanta starts a brief two-game road trip in Boston Wednesday night in a rematch from the Celtics’ 113-103 win over Hawks in November.

The Celtics were the 13th team in NBA history to start a season 20-0 at home but their dominance at TD Garden has cooled off in recent weeks. Boston is just 3-2 straight up during its current homestand and has gone 3-3 at home since losing to Denver Jan. 19.

De’Andre Hunter: The fourth overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft is probable for Wednesday. Hunter scored in double figures in 11 straight games before a knee injury caused him to miss over a month of action. Hunter returned Jan. 30 and scored just 12 points on 4-of-10 shooting with two rebounds in his first two games. Hunter looked like his former self in Monday’s loss to the Clippers, scoring 27 points on 10-of-12 shooting to go with seven rebounds and three assists.

Derrick White: The 6-foot-4 guard has been hot and cold of late and it’s either led to Boston’s success or its demise during the homestand. White had double-digit points in Boston’s last three wins, including 15 in Sunday’s victory over Memphis. He had just nine points on 4-of-11 shooting in Thursday’s 114-105 Celtics’ loss to the Lakers as a double-digit favorite. 

Boston is just 1-4 ATS during its homestand with a pair of outright defeats as favorites, but Atlanta has not been great away from home this season.

Atlanta is 5-11 ATS on the year as a road underdog and an abysmal 3-12 ATS with a rest disadvantage. Boston’s defense is one of the best in the NBA, but the Hawks’ offense has been hot since three-time All-Star guard Trae Young returned to the Atlanta lineup Jan. 30, averaging 136.8 points per game. 

On the other side, Boston leads the NBA in 3-pointers and faces an Atlanta defense rated No. 27. Take the over in a matchup between two teams in the top-5 in scoring offense (Atlanta is No. 3; Boston is No. 5) and top-10 in offensive rating (Boston is No. 2; Atlanta is No. 10).
