He is the (Formula) One: release date set for Keanu Reeves’ Brawn GP doc

Brawn: The Impossible Formula 1 Story to debut on Disney+ (PS, sorry for the headline)

1 / 5

For those of you who literally only want to know when Keanu Reeves’ hotly awaited Brawn GP documentary will be available to watch, it’s 15 November. You’re welcome.

For anyone else wanting to be furnished with a little more info, here’s what we know: Brawn: The Impossible Formula 1 Story is a four-part series, and it’ll land on Disney+ and on Hulu in the US next month.

Hosted by Neo, sorry, Reeves himself (he’s also credited as executive producer), the documentary goes behind the scenes with the ‘understaffed, underfinanced and independent team’ which somehow beat all odds to win the F1 world championship with both car and driver in 2009.

Long-time fans will recall that Honda decided to up sticks and decamp from F1 in a hurry in 2008, after which the operation was sold to Ross Brawn for the symbolic figure of £1. Apropos of nothing, that business today - as Mercedes-AMG Petronas etcetera etcetera - is probably worth north of a billion quid…

Featuring interviews with world champ Jenson Button, teammate Rubens Barrichelo, CEO Nick Fry, rival team boss Christian Horner and of course Ross Brawn himself, the series has access to footage to F1’s archives, ‘much of it previously unseen’ says Disney.

It’s a North One production that’s been developed, written and produced by Simon Hammerson and three-time BAFTA winner Neil Duncanson, with the award-winning Daryl Goodrich brought in as director.

As massive F1 and John Wick, sorry, Reeves fans, we’re really looking forward to this. Anyone who caught his post-qualifying interview with Martin Brundle at the British Grand Prix in 2022 knows the actor is genuinely passionate about the Brawn F1 story.

With that and Brad Pitt’s F1 movie in the works, this mainstream popularity is quite something…
