Home By The Lee poised to avenge Cheltenham setback

Just two races left before the main event, and the tension is cranking up a notch as the Liverpool Hurdle is chock full of high-quality hurdlers and an intriguing betting market.

2023-04-15Aintree Festival 2023: Liverpool Hurdle tips - Home By The Lee poised to avenge Cheltenham setback

More than half of the 10-strong field were last seen at the Cheltenham Festival, so this renewal could really be a race to savour.

Having landed this year's Stayers' Hurdle as a 33/1 outsider, Sire Du Berlais is back to defend the title he landed at odds of 16/1 a year ago, but the likes of Maries' Rock, Flooring Porter, Dashel Drasher and Home By The Lee will all fancy their chances here.

It is the last-named of those that has got the vote of the Tipstrr team, despite failing to deliver when well fancied to win the Stayers' Hurdle at Cheltenham, where he finished behind three of those named above.

Despite a big mistake at the sixth, Home By The Lee rallied late on to finish just a neck behind fourth-placed Flooring Porter and less than four lengths off the winner.

Others obviously have their claims here, but a clear round should see Home By The Lee justify his favourite tag.

Should any of the star cast slip up, then Paul Nicholls' Monmiral should be more than capable of joining the fray.

He has form around this course, having won a juvenile hurdle here in 2021 and coming runner-up behind Epatante in last year's Aintree Hurdle.

Harry Cobden should get the best ride out of him, and with four places available with some bookies, he could outrun his outsider odds.
